January 27, 2025, is officially recognized as a Muslim holiday in the Philippines, specifically for the observance of Isra Wal Miraj, which commemorates the Night Journey and Ascension of Prophet Muhammad.
However, it is important to note that this holiday is not a national holiday; it will be observed primarily in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and other designated Muslim areas as defined by the Muslim Code.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Sunday joined the Muslim Filipino community in observing Al Isra Wal Mi’raj.
“As you venerate this historic miracle through supplication and prayer, may its essence inspire among the Muslim faithful the value of perseverance through hardship and grief,” Marcos said.
“Let this observance also serve as a reminder that success is the reward of diligence and amity, and that sacrifice, persistence, and faith can guide us towards realizing our shared purpose in building a peaceful and progressive nation for all,” he added.
The holiday declaration was made by Malacañang, clarifying that while Muslims in regions outside BARMM, such as the National Capital Region, are excused from work today, January 27, 2025, it does not apply to the entire Philippines.
The significance of Isra Wal Miraj lies in its representation of spiritual resilience and devotion within the Muslim community, marking a miraculous journey that Prophet Muhammad undertook from Mecca to Jerusalem and then to heaven.
