Malacañang has indeed declared Thursday, February 8, 2024, a holiday. However, this declaration applies exclusively to the Municipality of Tiaong in Quezon Province. The holiday is for Filipinos to commemorate the birth anniversary of Claro M. Recto.
Claro M. Recto, a distinguished figure in Philippine history, served as a former Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. He is also a former Senator and was the author of the Rizal Law. Born on February 8 in Tiaong, Province of Quezon, Recto played a pivotal role in shaping the country’s legal and educational landscape.
Formalized by Proclamation No. 460, the holiday serves as a gesture of respect and recognition. It aligns with the government’s commitment to providing Filipinos with the opportunity to fully participate in the celebration of the occasion. Additionally, it encourages them to reflect on the legacy of this esteemed figure.
Moreover, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin jointly signed Proclamation No. 460 on January 26, 2024.
Proclamation No. 460 serves as a tribute to Claro M. Recto, recognizing the importance of preserving and commemorating his legacy. As the nation looks forward to this special non-working day, citizens are encouraged to take part in commemorating his birth anniversary. This extended weekend offers an opportunity for communities to celebrate and honor the contributions of a significant figure in Philippine history.
Additionally, In observance of Al-Isra’ Wal Mi’raj, February 8, 2024 has also been declared a holiday in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and other Muslim-majority areas. Muslim government employees outside of the BARMM are also entitled to observe this holiday.
