inside out 2 surpasses the avengers box office

After being in theaters for over a month, Inside Out 2 surpassed The Avengers’ 2012 box office record. The Pixar film just earned $1.524 billion, becoming the newest tenth highest-grossing film of all time.

The 2019 adaptation of The Lion King currently ranks ninth. However, if it remains in cinemas, the new Pixar movie could surpass it. The Lion King currently holds the record with $1.663 billion.

The sequel to the 2015 movie follows the same cast at a different age. Riley (played by Kensington Tallman) is now a preteen experiencing the emotions that come with it. Inside Out 2 revealed new emotions: Ennui, Envy, Embarrassment, Nostalgia, and Anxiety.

Deadline reports that the sequel earned $618.8 billion in the States alone, and international sales reached $905.1 million. This makes it the biggest animated movie ever, surpassing Frozen 2.

The top movie with the highest worldwide box office is Avatar with almost three billion dollars. Next is Avengers: Endgame with $2.799 billion, and third, Avatar: The Way of the Water with $2.320 billion.

Before its release, Pixar executive Pete Doctor shared that “the sequel would enjoy an exclusive theatrical window of 100 days.” Additionally, since its release, the film’s weekly drops in cinema views have been low, which means that viewers still continue to watch it.

For those who want to reminisce the memories of the Inside Out 1 full movie, it is available for streaming on Disney Plus.

In Mexico alone, it has reached the most earnings internationally with $100 million. Moreover, it is set to earn more since it has only been released in Japan. The top ten markets outside the States aside from Mexico include:

  • Brazil $77.3 million (highest-grossing in the country ever)
  • United Kingdom $64.9 million
  • Korea $58.2 million
  • France $55.6 million
  • China $45.9 million
  • Germany $44.7 million
  • Spain $44.4 million
  • Australia $35.1 million

Since its release on June 12 in the States and June 14 internationally, Inside Out 2 has been a crowd favorite. During its launch weekend, it garnered the biggest opening for an animated film worldwide, with $295 million in earnings.
