House Orders Arrest Of Ex-Duterte Advisor

The House of Representatives has ordered the arrest of former presidential advisor Michael Yang for failing to attend legislative hearings on Wednesday, July 31st. 

House Secretary General Reginald Velasco has officially signed the contempt order issued by the House Committee on Dangerous Drugs.

Surigao del Norte representative Ace Barbers stated that, according to their most recent information, Michael Yang is likely in Dubai. He also mentioned plans to coordinate with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Bureau of Immigration. They aim to notify other countries about Yang’s pending arrest order.



“We will have to provide information to the Immigration and DFA so that the DFA and our Immigration can likewise alarm other countries about the arrest order na inisyu dito sa House of Representatives,” Barbers commented. 

“So that we will be able to track kung nasaan siya kasi maaaring lumipat-lipat na rin siya. So kapag may alarm, it will now provide us information kung saan nagta-travel ito because he will be using definitely his own passport.”

House Sergeant-at-Arms Napoleon Taas and his team served the arrest order at a law office in Las Pinas City.

In summary, Michael Yang was associated with an incorporator of Empire 999 Realty Corp. Officials recently seized PHP 3.6 billion worth of shabu from a warehouse in Mexico Town linked to the corporation. The House of Representatives has invited Yang to discuss his alleged involvement.



The House had also issued a show-cause order against him, questioning the former advisor to formally explain his failure to attend the previous hearings.

During the July 10 hearing, former anti-drug officer Eduardo Acierto repeatedly stated that Michael Yang and Allan Lim, another Chinese national, engaged in illegal drug activities. Acierto first disclosed Yang’s alleged ties in 2017. Furthermore, authorities implicated Yang in the Pharmally scandal during the pandemic.



Recently, reports have connected Michael Yang to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), and the investigation is ongoing.
