The GMA Network was recently under fire for issues regarding abuse and harassment complaints. In light of the Sandro Muhlach incident, Gerald Santos spoke about his story at the Senate Committee on Public Information’s inquiry into the network’s policies.
The singer shared that he was sexually assaulted by a musical director from the network. He shared that he didn’t speak up out of fear. However, he filed an internal complaint in 2010.

Gerald Santos believes that his assailant’s friends in the network forced him out of GMA to defend their friend.
However, GMA said in a news article that they never let the singer go. They said the Gerald Santos issue they received in 2010 differs from the one they’re hearing in the Senate. The network said the singer asked to sever ties with the network.
Additionally, the network adds that they resolved the issue between the musical director and Gerald Santos in 2010. GMA says that his complaint led to the termination of his assailant, and his accusations in the Senate were different. They also added that Santos tried to return to GMA after his contract with TV5 ended.

In his appearance at the Senate, Senator Estrada asked if the singer could file a complaint. Nancy Lozana, State Counsel, answered that rape has a twenty-year prescriptive period. “I think it’s twenty years, but I’ll check po. Because he is a minor when the crime was committed so baka po mas matagal po ‘yung prescriptive period niya.”
