Actor Gerald Anderson demonstrates his good Samaritan spirit as he is seen rescuing a family stranded by floods from Super Typhoon Carina.

A video shared by user @TmaeOsanomae on Wednesday, July 24, captures Anderson wading through chest-deep floodwaters to assist a family trapped in their home. After greeting them, he reaches out to carry a crying girl to safety.

“Sasama ang nanay mo, tara,” Anderson reassuringly tells her. “Okay, ako ang bahala sa’yo,” he adds, as he carried her out in his arms.

On Wednesday, Metro Manila was declared a state of calamity due to the heavy downpours caused by the typhoon. According to a report by ABS-CBN News, Rachelle Joy Kabayo shared that her family waited for three hours before Anderson and other rescuers arrived.

“Mga 11:00 a.m., nag-ask na sila sa barangay. Kaso hindi nila ma-contact, then tumawag ulit sila. Wala pa daw available na boat. Mga 1:30 p.m. Si Gerald nag-rescue sa kanila,” Rachelle recounted.

Gerald Anderson received widespread praise from netizens on social media for his efforts. This isn’t the first time he has stepped up during crises; he was also involved in rescue operations for flood victims during Typhoon Ondoy in September 2009.

At that time, Anderson’s neighbor, Dr. Divine Rosales-Murao, shared a photo of the actor wading through their village’s flooded streets to check on his neighbors.

“Gerald tried to check on us since he knows and he saw I have three small kids with me, plus the house staff. The whole ground floor of our house was affected by the water. We told him we are still okay, and the second time he went back to us there, he was with Cesar Montano and Bayani Agbayani, plus others. We were telling Gerald if they can check on Queensland Street because my brother is there and we cannot go through that street anymore,”  Dr. Divine recalled in an interview with Cosmo.ph.
