French actor, producer, and writer Alain Delon passed away at 88 years old yesterday, August 18, 2024, at his home in Douchy (France). His three children, Anthony, Anouchka, and Alain-Fabien have confirmed the sad news to the Agence France-Presse.

“He passed away peacefully in his home in Douchy, surrounded by his three children and his family,” the AFP news agency stated based on the family’s statement. There was no further confirmation regarding Alain Delon’s cause of death, and his family asked for privacy at this painful time.

Many people have paid respect and tribute to the news of Alain Delon’s death.

“Melancholic, popular, secretive, he was more than a star: a French monument,” French President Emmanuel Macron said in his tribute to the actor.

Former French singer and actress Brigitte Bardot published a post on her Instagram page as a message to her late friend.

“I lose a friend, an alter ego, an accomplice. We shared the same values, the same disappointments, the same love of animals.”

Alain Delon was a well-praised actor during his prime. He co-starred alongside many famous actresses, including Jane Fonda, Lola Albright, and Shirley MacLaine. He is remembered as an icon of both French and European cinema. Many even nicknamed him the “French Frank Sinatra.”

He first appeared in the 1957 thriller “Send a Woman When the Devil Fails,” where he played as a hitman. Alain Delon’s movies also include “Plein Soleil” in 1960, “Le Samourai” in 1997, and “The Leopard” in 1963. Actress Romy Schneider and Alain Delon also starred in the 1996 thriller “La Piscine,” which is considered one of the latter’s crowning moments.

He became an Officer in the French Legion of Honor in 2005 for his contribution to world cinema. The actor’s last major public appearance was at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2019, at which he received an honorary Palme d’Or. Throughout his career, he has worked on almost 90 films.

“It’s a bit of a posthumous tribute, but from my lifetime,” Delon said in his emotional speech at the festival. “I am going to leave, but I won’t leave without thanking you.”

Alain Delon has also been in several controversies, including being at the center of a family feud in previous years. In April 2024, a judge placed Delon under “reinforced curatorship,” minimizing his freedom to manage his assets.
