Former BBC News presenter Huw Edwards faces serious charges involving three counts of creating indecent images of children.

Police released a statement saying that the offenses have allegedly taken place between December 2020 and April 2022. The images are also thought to have been shared on a WhatsApp chat.

Huw Edwards was the leading BBC presenter on key events, including the death and funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. However, he was suspended in July 2023 when his first allegations emerged. He was also arrested on November 8 this year. Huw Edwards’ case has been ongoing and resurfaced around July 30.

He is accused of having 6 category A images, the most serious classification in English law. The case includes 12 Category B pictures and 19 Category C photographs on his WhatsApp chat. The case is currently ongoing, but he could be facing up to 10 years if found guilty.

“Making indecent images can have a wide definition in the law and can include opening an email attachment containing such an image, downloading one from a website, or receiving one via social media, even if unsolicited and even if part of a group,” according to the CPS website.

Edward’s wife Vicky Flind, released a statement that Edwards was “suffering from serious mental health issues.” She also added that he had been admitted to hospital on one of these occasions.

Huw Edwards himself made no public comment on the ongoing allegations.
