Despite the spiking cases of COVID-19 in Cagayan de Oro City, only a few people are getting confined or spending time in hospitals thanks to the high vaccination rate, the City Health Office (CHO) reported.

The Department of Health (DOH) Region 10 said 467,181 Cagayan de Oro residents have already been inoculated as of January 11. That’s 81.3% of the 574,491 residents eligible for the vaccination in the city.

“The new cases now are milder, and recoveries are faster,” CHO medical officer Dr. Teodoro Yu Jr said during the City’s Monday (January 17) press briefing.

Because of the mass vaccination, COVID-19 patients were either not confined or discharged faster since patients only exhibit milder symptoms, unlike the 2021 July-August surge, where the hospitals in the city nearly collapsed.

In today’s press briefing, the CHO reported 154 new COVID-19 cases, bringing its total tally to 21,303. Of the cumulative, 794 are active cases, while 19,653 patients already recovered and 856 died. – WhatALife!
