SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA— Kai, one of the members of the K-pop boy group EXO, is set to begin his mandatory military service on May 11, according to an announcement made by SM Entertainment, EXO’s agency, on Wednesday, May 3.
The label explained that Kai was supposed to be preparing for EXO’s upcoming comeback, which is set for later this year. However, a recent change in regulations from the Military Manpower Administration has forced the idol to start his military service earlier than expected.
Kai will undergo basic military training at the army recruit training center before serving as a public service worker. The location and time of his enlistment will not be disclosed, and no official event will be held on the day of his recruitment.
“We are bringing sudden news related to Kai’s military service to fans,” the agency said.
“Kai was preparing for EXO’s comeback for this year, but because of a recent change in regulations by the Military Manpower Administration, he’s set to enter the army recruit training center on May 11. He’ll receive basic military training, and he will then serve as a public service worker”, it added.
SM Entertainment also stated that updates regarding EXO’s upcoming album will be released once the details are sorted out.
In South Korea, every Korean man is required to perform military service, which is overseen and managed by the Military Manpower Administration.
Members Xiumin, D.O, Suho, Chen, Chanyeol, and Baekhyun have all completed their mandatory military services, making Kai the seventh member of EXO to enlist.
Kai, whose real name is Kim Jong-in, debuted under SM Entertainment as a member of EXO in 2012. He is also known for his solo work and has already made his solo debut in 2020. Fans are expressing their love and support for the idol as he takes this important step in his life. – WhatALife!/Jayve
