Esnyr Accused of Queerbaiting in Latest Highschool Section Wars Video

Esnyr Ranollo, more popularly known as Esnyr, is a Filipino social media personality known for his skits. Recently, he uploaded a new episode to his High School series where a netizen accused him of queerbaiting.

Esnyr’s High School series on YouTube has been a hit for numerous viewers. A lot of people find the humor in the skits appealing. Additionally, netizens find it to resemble their high school experience with a comedic twist.

In the series, he portrays several characters. This isn’t new to social media users since they have always seen him playing multiple people in a single video. However, a netizen pointed out that the social media star is using his platform to queerbait.



The episode featured Precious caught between three men: Brent Manalo, Shan Vesagas, and Jeremiah Lisbo. This entanglement triggered the user’s post since the main actor is a gay man.

However, numerous netizens defended Esnyr against the post. One user shared that “Queerbaiting typically refers to the practice of hinting at, but not explicitly depicting, queer relationships or characters in media to attract an LGBTQ+ audience without actually providing meaningful representation.”

In addition, other users pointed out that it was evident that the original poster did not watch the video.They further emphasized that a gay actor portrays Precious, who is a ciswoman.

On the other hand, some users also defended the post, agreeing with its perspective. One user comments: 

Another user mentioned in their comments that the video does not promote queerbaiting. They added that the original poster should call out content creators who do this.
