The girl from the viral YouTube video featuring Pusuan or Laruan with Marion Aunor became viral for her unexpected response.
When asked why she popped the balloon, she replied that she is an “Englishera,” implying that her fluency in English might intimidate suitors.
While some found it amusing, others criticized her, leading to a wave of backlash online.
As the clip spread, she faced intense cyberbullying, with people mocking her and sending hate messages.
The negativity escalated, and she even received death threats.
After enduring this for two weeks, she made a statement on Instagram.
Where she described the experience as one of the worst in her life, revealing that she had the spliced video taken down.
“I didn’t do anything wrong, and yet I got hate DMs, was made into memes, a sound bite, death threats, and more,” she wrote. “The hate wasn’t even from a few hundred; it was from tens of thousands of people.”
Aly clarified that her comment was simply a personal preference and not meant to offend anyone.
She also addressed criticisms of her speech, saying English is her first language and that she spoke Taglish to adjust to the Filipino setting.
Despite the hate, Aly expressed her desire to advocate against bullying.
“I want to help other people because I do not wish this at all,” she stated.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, March 12, the 28-year-old shared her intention to become an anti-bullying advocate. “If you guys know where I can start, I am all ears. Maybe a podcast! I want to help other people because I do not wish this at all,” she said.
Supporters flooded her comments section, reassuring her that she is “so much more than some video” and encouraging her to continue raising awareness about cyberbullying.
Some reminded her that she is “a gift” and should not let the negativity define her.
She ended her message with a call for understanding and kindness, choosing to forgive those who sent her hate.
“If you made it this far, thank you for taking time to read this. To those who have sent me hate, I hear you. We have our own preferences, and I forgive you and wish you peace.”
