Filipino Olympian EJ Obiena remains optimistic and undismayed despite finishing fourth in the 2024 Paris Olympic games. He took to social media to share his feelings.
EJ Obiena world rank is No. 2 under the men’s pole vault. The performer is already back in training for another upcoming event. However, during the Olympic performance, he revealed that he was fighting off various physical problems, the most significant one being a recurring issue in the lumbar part of his spine.
Jim Lafferty, Obiena’s advisor, confirmed this news later on in an online conference.

He experienced connective issues, which led to muscle spasms, pain, and an inability to vault.
In a recent Facebook post, Obiena expressed his gratitude, overwhelmed by the messages he received regarding his performance and results in the Olympics.
“Hi everyone. I have been trying to read everyone’s messages to me, post-Olympics. So much to take from it but I draw two immediate conclusions.
First, I feel immense gratitude for all your support and love, especially during times like this. I am truly blessed to be embraced by the country that raised me! Thank you!
The measure of a man or woman is NOT a singular event—like the Olympics—but a cumulative or collective measure over time. I finished 4th in Paris, close but not good enough.”
EJ Obiena continues in his post with, “I commit to everyone now, I am back in training, I am back in the game, and I am going to attack the rest of the season and make you proud. You are going to see more from me, and see the Philippine Flag raised and raised on a global stage.”
