The Philippine National Police (PNP) is planning to file assault charges against Honeylet Avanceña, the long-time partner of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
Following an incident during Duterte’s arrest at Villamor Air Base on March 11, 2025.
Avanceña allegedly hit a female Special Action Force (SAF) officer on the head with a cellphone, causing a noticeable injury.
The confrontation occurred as authorities executed an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant against Duterte.
Related to charges of crimes against humanity stemming from his administration’s anti-drug campaign.
Tensions escalated when Avanceña and their daughter, Veronica “Kitty” Duterte, attempted to intervene during the arrest.

According to PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, the injured SAF officer received medical treatment for swelling on her forehead but has since been released from the hospital.
Fajardo stressed that the police exercised restraint throughout the operation and ensured that Duterte and his family were treated properly.
Despite the heated exchange and efforts to block the arrest, no one from Duterte’s side was harmed.
The PNP is also considering filing obstruction of justice charges against former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, who allegedly attempted to prevent Duterte’s arrest.
The incident underscores the heightened emotions and complexities surrounding the enforcement of the ICC’s arrest warrant against Duterte.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the PNP maintains its commitment to upholding the law while ensuring the safety and rights of all individuals involved.
