Drew Arellano underwent a vasectomy after welcoming his fifth child with wife Iya Villania.

The procedure, discussed publicly as early as June 2023, aligns with the couple’s long-term family planning goals.

Arellano, known for hosting travel and lifestyle shows, earlier announced on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” that he planned to have the procedure.

He and Villania recently celebrated the birth of their newest daughter, Anya Love, joining their four other children Primo, Leon, Alana, and Astro.

The vasectomy took place after the arrival of their fifth child in early 2025.

On Instagram, the Biyahe ni Drew host shared a photo of himself lying down in a hospital bed.

“Happy late and advanced Mother’s Day to my wife,” he wrote in the caption, humorously marking the moment with the hashtags #HappyVA-SEC-TO-MEEE and #snipsnip.

Vasectomy, a minor surgical procedure, permanently prevents a man from causing pregnancy, offering a highly effective method of birth control.

The Commission on Population and Development in the Philippines has promoted non-scalpel vasectomy since 2019.

Citing it as a safe, efficient option for male involvement in family planning.

The Arellanos’ open discussion about vasectomy aims to encourage more conversations about men’s roles in reproductive health decisions.

Their move shows a practical approach toward parenting and modern family responsibilities.

Arellano’s public announcement could help normalize vasectomy in a country where male contraception still faces stigma.

What is a vasectomy?

A vasectomy is a minor surgical procedure that permanently prevents a man from causing pregnancy. It is one of the most effective methods of birth control and usually involves cutting or sealing the tubes that carry sperm.

Is vasectomy a common practice in the Philippines?

While vasectomy remains less common compared to other methods of contraception in the Philippines, efforts to promote non-scalpel vasectomy (NSV) have been growing. Since 2019, the Commission on Population and Development has been encouraging more Filipino men to consider it as a safe and efficient family planning option.

Is vasectomy reversible?

While vasectomy is considered a permanent form of birth control, reversal procedures exist. However, reversals are complicated, expensive, and not always successful. Couples are encouraged to consider vasectomy as a permanent decision.
