The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has issued official guidelines on holiday pay for employees working during the April 2025 holidays.

These rules apply to both regular holidays and special non-working days, ensuring proper compensation for workers.

Regular Holidays in April 2025

The following dates have been declared as regular holidays:

  • April 1 – Eid’l Fitr
  • April 9 – Day of Valor (Araw ng Kagitingan)
  • April 17 – Maundy Thursday
  • April 18 – Good Friday

Special Non-Working Day

  • April 19: Black Saturday

Under the DOLE April 2025 holiday pay rules, employees are entitled to specific compensation depending on whether they work or not during regular holidays.

Those who report to work receive higher pay rates, while those who rest may still be compensated under certain conditions.

The following are the guidelines for regular holidays:

  • Employees Not Working: Those who do not work on these days will receive 100% of their daily wage, provided they were present or on paid leave on the workday immediately before the holiday.
  • Employees Working: Those who work on a regular holiday will be paid 200% of their daily wage for the first eight hours.
  • Overtime Work: For work exceeding eight hours, employees are entitled to an additional 30% of their hourly rate on top of the double pay.
  • Holiday on Rest Day: If the holiday falls on an employee’s rest day and they work, they will receive an extra 30% on top of the 200% pay.

Under the DOLE April 2025 holiday pay rules, special non-working days follow a “no work, no pay” policy unless a company policy or agreement states otherwise.

Employees who work on these days are entitled to additional compensation based on the number of hours worked.

The following are the guidelines for special non-working days:

  • No Work, No Pay: Employees who do not work on this day are not entitled to pay unless a company policy or collective bargaining agreement states otherwise.
  • Employees Working: Those who work on Black Saturday will receive an additional 30% of their basic wage for the first eight hours.
  • Overtime Work: For overtime hours, employees will receive an additional 30% of their hourly rate.
  • Work on Rest Day: If Black Saturday falls on an employee’s rest day and they work, they will receive 150% of their daily wage for the first eight hours, with an additional 30% for overtime.

Employers are required to follow these guidelines to ensure fair compensation for employees during the April 2025 holidays.

Failure to comply may result in penalties and liability for unpaid wages.

Employees should consult DOLE advisories or seek professional advice for specific situations or disputes regarding holiday pay.

What happens if my employer does not follow the holiday pay rules?

Employers are required to follow DOLE’s April 2025 holiday pay rules. Failure to comply may result in penalties and liabilities for unpaid wages. Employees can report violations to DOLE or seek legal assistance if needed.

What if Black Saturday falls on my rest day?

If Black Saturday falls on your rest day and you work, you will receive 150% of your daily wage for the first eight hours, plus an additional 30% for overtime work.

Will I be paid if I don’t work on a special non-working day?

Under the “no work, no pay” policy, employees who do not work on a special non-working day are not entitled to pay, unless a company policy or collective bargaining agreement states otherwise.
