The Department of Health (DOH) has raised a Code White Alert across the country for Holy Week 2025, which runs from April 13 (Palm Sunday) to April 20 (Easter Sunday).

This means that all government hospitals are ready to respond quickly to any medical emergencies during the holiday.

A Code White Alert is usually activated during big holidays or events when more accidents and health problems are expected.

During this time, hospital staff, especially those in emergency rooms, are on standby.

The DOH wants to make sure that people can get the care they need fast if something goes wrong.

Health Secretary Ted Herbosa reminded the public to stay safe, especially with more people traveling and the hot weather.

He warned about the risks of heat stroke and other heat-related illnesses.

To avoid getting sick, he advised people to drink plenty of water, stay in cool places, and not to stay under the sun for too long.

Maging alerto po tayo sa mga kalsada ngayong karamihan ay nagbyabyahe. At dahil din po sa matinding init, mag ingat din po tayo sa epekto nito sa katawan.” Herbosa said.

The DOH also urged the public to be careful during religious gatherings and other Holy Week activities.

If anyone feels unwell, they should go to the nearest hospital for help.

Government hospitals will be open and ready to assist anyone who needs medical attention.

By activating the Code White Alert, the DOH hopes to keep everyone safe and healthy during one of the busiest times of the year.

Why was the alert raised for Holy Week 2025?

Holy Week usually involves large gatherings, religious processions, and heavy travel, which can lead to more accidents or health issues. The alert helps hospitals respond quickly to emergencies during this time.

What health risks should people be aware of during Holy Week?

Common risks include heat stroke, dehydration, injuries from travel accidents, and health issues from crowded places. The DOH advises everyone to drink water often, stay cool, and be cautious while outdoors.

Does the Code White Alert apply to private hospitals too?

The alert mainly applies to government hospitals, but private hospitals may also increase their readiness during Holy Week depending on their policies.
