The “Her Locket” film emerged dominant at the 6th Sinag Maynila Film Festival, garnering over eight awards. Some of the awards include Best Screenplay, Best Production, Best Ensemble Acting, and Best Supporting Actress for Elora Españo, just to name a few.
Actress Rebecca Chuaunsu, who won Best Actress for the film, is extremely proud as the film has grown beyond her original intentions.

“I said I don’t have five reasons — I have only one compelling reason. If I don’t produce my movie, I cannot breathe. So tonight, I can finally breathe.” Chuaunsu said in her speech.
The actress shared how “Her Locket” was originally a “revenge” project against her family.
“Being a strong woman, I fought for gender equality,” Chuaunsu told the Inquirer. “The idea started there, and whether or not it ended as a revenge film, you would have to watch.”
The film “Her Locket” is based on the true story of Jewel Ouyang-Nicolas, a former actress and daughter of a wealthy Chinese businessman.
“She is telling us now that the issues before are still the same today. During our time, I couldn’t date Filipinos. I also could not join show business. Thirdly, the Chinese always favor sons over daughters. These are still the same up to this day.”
Rebecca pitched the story at a seminar on writing and filmmaking. She also added that, surprisingly, the story is still relevant to many Filipino-Chinese families today.

Sophie Ng, who played Jewel in her younger days, said she was thankful for being part of the film and that its plot feels so close to home.
“I’m also Chinese. While I did my research on the lives of Filipino Chinese women in the ’70s,” she shared. “I also learned a lot from the heart-to-heart talk I had with Ms Rebecca. “It’s funny because Jewel is like me in real life. I’m also not encouraged to date Pinoys.”
“Jewel’s parents don’t know that she is taking up film. I’m taking film at Mint College right now, and my parents are also unaware of it,” Sophie added. “I’m happy that I actually got to voice out what’s happening to me through this movie.”
“Her Locket” film has also been featured at several film festivals. Much like the 6th Sinag Maynila Film Festival, it has garnered multiple awards and nominations for its story and character performance.
