DFA Confirms 2 Filipinos Dead, 2 Still Missing After Myanmar Earthquake

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has confirmed the death of a second Filipino in the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28. 

The victim was among four Filipinos reported missing after the collapse of the Sky Villa condominium in Mandalay. 

The DFA stated that the victim’s family has been informed and requested privacy during this difficult time.

Earlier, the DFA confirmed the first Filipino fatality from the disaster. 



Search and rescue teams continue efforts to locate the two remaining missing Filipinos.

The earthquake has caused widespread destruction across Myanmar, with over 3,600 deaths reported so far. 

The United Nations estimates that more than 3 million people have been affected, many of whom are now homeless. 

The disaster compounds challenges for Myanmar, which is already grappling with an ongoing civil conflict.



In response, the Philippines has deployed a 91-person team to assist in relief operations. 

The team, comprising personnel from the Department of Health, Office of Civil Defense, and military. 

Arrived in Myanmar on April 1 and will remain for two weeks as part of ASEAN’s coordinated regional response.



The DFA assured that it remains in close communication with Myanmar authorities and continues to support affected Filipinos. 

It also urged the public to respect the privacy of grieving families.

How many Filipinos were affected by the Myanmar earthquake?

Four Filipinos were reported missing after a building collapsed in Mandalay. Two have been confirmed dead, while search operations are still ongoing for the other two.

 Where exactly in Myanmar did the earthquake hit?

The epicenter was near Mandalay, one of Myanmar’s major cities. It caused widespread damage in urban and rural areas, including the collapse of several buildings.

How are search and rescue operations being carried out?

Local and international teams are using heavy equipment and sniffer dogs to search collapsed buildings, including Sky Villa, where the Filipinos were staying.
