DAVAO CITY, PHILIPPINES — On May 13, the city government of Davao registered 14 active coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the midst of the recent elections.
In a Monday interview with Davao City Disaster Radio, Mayor Sara Z. Duterte indicated that 12 of the new cases are asymptomatic, one is moderate, and the other is severe.
As officials continue to monitor the city’s Covid-19 incidents following municipal campaigns and elections, which are deemed “super spreaders,” the mayor expressed hope that the cases will remain low.
“My fearless forecast is that our low Covid-19 cases will continue. If it increases, it will mostly be asymptomatic and mild cases,” she said.
The city had recorded 1,33,0176 first dose vaccinations and 1,312,211 second dose vaccines as of May 13.
Only 2,805 Dabawenyos reappeared to the vaccination hubs for their second booster shot, out of a total of 254,679 Dabawenyos who had the first booster shot.
“My assessment on the people’s behavior is that they don’t have the sense of urgency as they are not seeing deaths as Covid-19 cases are not increasing,” Duterte said.
The city’s vaccination cluster offers mobile vaccinations to reach out to more remote barangays where the mass of the population has yet to get vaccinated.
To facilitate the working class, vaccination centers in shopping malls and outdoor parks have expanded their services to Saturdays.
Meanwhile, outgoing Davao City Mayor Duterte-Carpio stated that she will hold her inauguration earlier than the regular June 30 date in order to attend the inauguration of her campaign mate, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Duterte states that many of her fellow Dabawenyos want to see her take the oath, which is why she wants it to happen in her hometown. She continued by saying that doing so is only proper since it will bring Davao City and the Davao Region pride. – WhatALife!
