Renowned Hong Kong martial arts director and actor Corey Yuen died in 2022. The Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers confirmed his death on August 12. 

Corey Yuen’s cause of death is from COVID-19 complications, with his family choosing to keep news of his departure private. However, on Monday, the news was revealed when action star Jackie Chan paid tribute to Corey Yuen alongside other associates in the industry who died. 

Yuen was a member of the Seven Little Fortunes alongside Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung. 



Yuen started as a fight extra in several Hong Kong films, first appearing in Bruce Lee’s Fist of Fury. After his acting career, he became a stunt choreographer and made major contributions as a director. Specifically, he played a significant role in multiple martial arts films throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s.

Corey Yuen is well known for his collaborations with Jet Li in films such as ‘The Legend Of Fong Sai-Yuk’, ‘My Father Is A Hero’, and ‘The Bodyguard of Beijing’. Corey Yuen’s works include ‘Dragons Forever’ with Sammo Hung and ‘All for the Winner’. 

Additionally, he also worked with American actor Jean-Claude Van Damme in ‘No Retreat, No Surrender’.



Yuen’s final directorial work was on the 2006 video game adaptation ‘DOA: Dead or Alive’. Afterward, he worked as a fight choreographer on various titles, including ‘War’, ‘Red Cliff’, and ‘The Man With the Iron Fists’. He was 71 years old.
