On September 10th, 2023, Philippine congressman Rufus Rodriguez, along with his wife, Nene Rodriguez, and members of the USTP Board of Regents were welcomed with open arms by the officials of Sogang University.

In a recent development, the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philipines, under USTP-Sytem President Butch Cultura, has signed two agreements with Dr. Kwanwoo Shin, president of the Research and Business Development Foundation, and Scientists and Engineer Without Borders of South Korea.

The agreements mentioned aimed at strengthening the research and development programs of USTP and training of their professors on research and development at Sogang University in Seoul. Additionally, this opens opportunities for USTP students to pursue their studies under scholarships at the said university, enrolling in any 3-year diploma program. 

In order to qualify for this opportunity, students must take and pass an online Korean language proficiency course. 

Sogang University, located in the heart of Seoul, is a private research university that has a long and rich history that dates back to 1960. 

This university was founded under the guidance of Fr. Theodore Geppert, SJ, in collaboration with the Wisconsin Province of the Society of Jesus.

Sogang University holds the title of being the oldest Jesuit university in South Korea. Additionally, it also stands as one of the nation’s foremost institutions of higher learning, having garnered recognition as one of the top three Catholic universities in the Asian region.

Sogang University boasts an impressive list of notable alumni and faculty members, one of them being Park-Geun-hye, who served as the nation’s 11th president. 

Additional notable members include the current Minister of SMEs and Startups and former member of the National Assembly, Park Young-sun, and Suh Byung-soo, member of the National Assembly and former member of Busan.
