The Commission on Elections (Comelec) may proclaim the 12 winning senators as early as Saturday, May 17, 2025.
Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia announced the possible proclamation during a press briefing at the Tent City in Manila Hotel, where the canvassing and proclamation take place.
He said the Commission targets Saturday or Sunday for the announcement, depending on how soon the canvassing process concludes.
The Comelec is still finalizing whether to proceed with a full or partial proclamation.
A full proclamation may happen if the remaining uncanvassed votes no longer affect the current rankings—especially the vote difference between the 12th and 13th placers.
As of Tuesday, May 13, at 8:51 p.m., Senator Bong Go led the race with 26,482,561 votes. Former Senator Bam Aquino followed with 20,635,497 votes.
Senator Imee Marcos held the 12th spot with 13,035,918 votes, leading broadcaster Ben Tulfo, who ranked 13th with 11,886,113 votes.
The Comelec said the proclamation depends on the completion of the canvassing of all Certificates of Canvass (COCs).
The poll body is verifying if the remaining votes could still alter the top 12 positions.
The canvassing continues at the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) headquarters.
The Commission is expediting the process to meet the possible weekend proclamation.
Garcia clarified that they will not rush the announcement unless the remaining results are mathematically irrelevant to the standings.
If needed, partial proclamation may happen for candidates whose positions are guaranteed.
The proclamation will officially confirm the 12 lawmakers who will serve six-year terms in the Senate.
The Comelec urges transparency and accuracy, assuring the public that the process follows the law and safeguards election integrity.
The Comelec may proceed with a full or partial proclamation. A full proclamation will occur if the remaining uncanvassed votes cannot affect the current rankings. Otherwise, a partial proclamation may be conducted for candidates whose positions are secure.
The proclaimed senators will officially serve six-year terms in the Philippine Senate, joining the 12 senators elected in 2022 to form the 20th Congress of the Philippines.
The Comelec emphasizes transparency and accuracy by strictly following legal procedures, thoroughly verifying all election returns, and ensuring that the vote count is complete and correct before proclaiming the winners.
