Musician and band frontman Chris Martin announced that Coldplay will retire after releasing two more albums. In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Martin revealed the band’s initial plans and reasonings.
“We are only going to do 12 proper albums, and that’s real. Yeah, I promise. For some of our critics, even less would be even more! It’s really important that we have that limit,” Martin explained.

Members agreed that limiting their album numbers contributed to Coldplay’s retirement and influence. Chris Martin has also explained their reasoning further in the same interview.
“There are only seven Harry Potters. There are only 12 and a half Beatles albums; there’s about the same for Bob Marley, so all our heroes.
Also, having that limit means the quality control is so high right now, and for a song to make it, it’s almost impossible, which is great. And so where we could be coasting, we’re trying to improve.”
He also stated that he wanted to give members of Coldplay the time to spend their lives on their endeavors other than working for the group:
“To make an album great as a band, it’s such a lot of wrangling of people, and I want to give the others some of their life for themselves.”

Coldplay performed in the Philippines for two nights in January as part of their Music of the Spheres tour. Fans will easily recognize them for their array of hits, including “Viva La Vida,” “Yellow,” and “Fix You.”
Over nine Coldplay albums are available for purchase, and their 10th album, “Moon Music,” will be released on October 4th.
