Police arrested two suspects in Boracay linked to the kidnap-slay of businessman Anson Que and his driver, Armanie Pabillo.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) captured Wenli Gong, also known as Kelly Tan Lim, and Wu Ja Ping on May 17.
Authorities tagged Gong as a co-mastermind in the case. Wu, identified as Gong’s personal hairdresser, allegedly helped her avoid arrest by altering her appearance.
Despite the victim’s family paying over ₱100 million in ransom, kidnappers killed Que and Pabillo.
Their bodies were found on April 9 in Rodriguez, Rizal.
Police investigations revealed that Gong handled the digital transfer of ransom money, converting it into cryptocurrency.
The CIDG traced her movements using financial tracking and digital forensics, which led to her arrest in Aklan.
Brigadier General Jean Fajardo, PNP spokesperson, confirmed that most of the main suspects have been arrested.
The CIDG filed criminal complaints against them before the Department of Justice.
Investigators are now focused on locating the remaining ransom funds.
Authorities requested help from the Chinese Embassy, as Gong, a Chinese national, has not cooperated in the probe.
The case drew public and government attention due to its brutality and the ransom’s size. Lawmakers and business groups condemned the crime and pushed for stronger security measures.
Police said the investigation continues to identify other members of the kidnapping group.
The CIDG also coordinated with cybersecurity experts to trace cryptocurrency trails linked to the ransom.
