Veteran actress Celia Rodriguez praised Angel Locsin’s portrayal of Darna as the best in a recent YouTube interview. Her comments sparked a range of reactions from viewers, but she stood by her opinion.

“That is my prerogative who is the best Darna, sabi ko si Angel Locsin! Binash ako!” Rodriguez said during “Ogie Diaz Inspires” last night on July 29th.

Many interviewers before have asked the seasoned actress about her thoughts on who was the most fitting actress to take the mantle of the Pinay superhero, Darna. She elaborated on the topic further during the YouTube show.

Many netizens, some being long-time supporters of Celia Rodriguez, gave mixed reactions. But she remained convicted to her statement as she has worked with many actresses who also played Darna after her. She commented on her experience as well on Angel Locsin’s role.

“I’ve worked with Marian (Rivera-Dantes), I’ve worked with Angel, I’ve worked with Vilma, all of them did Darna, so I can compare, well, Angel is really the best. I’m sorry, that’s my choice.”

Along the show, the host said the netizens might have thought that it should be her as the best Darna actress. However, the veteran quickly responded.

“And be hypocrite? That’s one thing with me, I’m not a hypocrite; what I am is what you see. (Alangan) sabihin ko na si ano ang magandang Darna tapos sa loob-loob ko, bakit ko ba sinabi ‘yun? I have to be true to myself, or else I cannot be true to you.”

Some netizens were unhappy with Rodriguez’s comment to the point they brought up personal life being part of the role.

“Teka muna hindi ko naman pinag-uusapan ang personal life! We are talking about an acting! Kung sino ang magaling,” she stated on the sudden jump of the thought at the time. “What you do with your personal life is none of my concern, wala akong pakialam sa buhay mo. Ang tanong ay sino ang mas magaling umarte, hindi pinag-uusapan ang buhay mo, bakit ako bina-bash? Wala naman akong sinabing masama?”

Some netizens, however, have agreed and even praised the veteran actress’s honest opinions. One fan on Twitter/X has shared a poster with Rodriguez’s quotes of “The Best Darna is Angel Locsin” as the title:

Angel Locsin did not release any comment regarding the interview, as she avoids social media in her private life.
