Margarita “Gaita” Forés, a renowned celebrity chef and restaurateur has died at age 65. The news is confirmed by her son, Amado, on Tuesday, February 11.
The AF Hospitality owner wrote on his Instagram:
“It is with a heavy heart that I share the sudden passing of my Mom, Margarita A. Forés. Our family is mourning this unexpected loss, and we kindly ask for your prayers during this time. We will be able to share more in due time.”

The cause of her death is not mentioned in the post. Sources claim that the late chef died in Hong Kong.
Celebrities and influencers expressed mourning and condolences to the bereaved.

Abi Marquez, also a celebrity chef, and Matteo Guidicelli, actor and restaurateur, shared their grief while honoring the late chef’s legacy.
In an Instagram post, Marquez shared:
“You were one of my biggest inspirations long before we met, and this moment meant the world to me. Thank you for your kindness, your legacy”
Meanwhile, the actor expressed his gratitude:
“I will always be grateful for your encouragement and motivation, especially in the restaurant business. You were not just a mentor but a true friend“
Forés was named Asia’s Best Female Chef by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2016. She was known for integrating innovative concepts inspired by Filipino and Italian cuisines.
Apart from her notable culinary milestones, Margarita was the person behind the establishment of Cibo, which opened in 1997. The restaurant chain’s success followed the opening of Lusso, Cafe Bola, Grace Park, and The Loggia at Palacio de Memoria.
Cibo is the first restaurant of Margarita Forés. It is a restaurant chain that serves Italian cuisines. It currently has 18 branches across the Metro and nearby areas.
Forés was known for her pioneering culinary career and acclaimed restaurant chains. She was an advocate for promoting Filipino cuisine globally.
Forés was recognized locally and internationally. She was awarded Asia’s Best Female Chef in 2016, honored with the title Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia (Knight of the Order of the STar of Italy), and United Nations Ambassador for Gastronomic Tourism in 2019.
The late restaurateur’s death was not disclosed by her son, Amado Forés. It is noted that Margarita survived cancer twice around 2006, showing her resilience and strength in her life.
