The 2025 midterm elections for the Philippines’ public office have entered its early stages, with candidates filling in to take the opening. Surprisingly, many of these eager include celebrities and online personalities.
The other percentage consists of politicians who are recognizable by name. Among the big names is longtime actor-turned-politician Lito Lapid, who is looking to re-elect for the Senate position. This will be his third consecutive term.

Another figure who is looking to return to the Senate is host-comedian and former Senate President Tito Sotto. Political vlogger and YouTuber Marco Gamboa is also eyeing the position.
Moving to the House of Representatives, Actor Marco Gumabao plans to succeed in the world of politics. He has filed his certificate of candidacy for congressman in Camarines Sur’s fourth district and is backed up by the Villafuerte clan.
Actors Jojo Revilla and Richard Gomez are also seeking reelection. The former is the first district representative of Cavite, and the latter is Leyte’s fourth.
Meanwhile, Deo Balbuena, the social media personality and owner of Diwata Pares, is recognized as the fourth nominee for the Vendors Partylist. Balbuena even stated that if he were elected to Congress, he would offer “unli pares” and free soft drinks in the House.

For the local public office position, social media personality and entrepreneur Rosmar Tan is making another attempt to run for councilor in Manila’s first district. She previously ran for Manila’s fourth district back in 2022 but failed.
There are so many more personalities-turned-politicans who are filing for candidacy and it catches the netizen’s attention. They took to various online sites to vent their reactions with most of their comments criticizing the the entire matter.
In related news, Vice Ganda had also garnered criticism for her previous quote regarding not running for public office due to lacking knowledge of the matter. However, she gives full support for her partner, who also lacks knowledge about running in politics.
The deadline for candidacy filing is set for October 8, 2024.
