Cardinal electors from 70 countries have begun arriving in Rome ahead of the papal conclave, which will take place in the Sistine Chapel starting May 7, 2025.

The conclave follows the death of Pope Francis and will determine the next pope for the Catholic Church.

The election will determine the next leader of the world’s 1.4 billion Catholics.

This conclave is the largest and most globally diverse in modern history.

The cardinals face urgent challenges: clerical abuse scandals, internal divisions, and growing cultural shifts worldwide.

They must choose a pope who can unify the Church and lead with clarity amid global uncertainty.

Among those expected to play key roles are Cardinal Pietro Parolin, former Vatican Secretary of State, and Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle of the Philippines, known for his pastoral approach and international outreach.

To preserve secrecy, cardinals must surrender all electronic devices.

Breaking the oath of confidentiality carries automatic excommunication.

White smoke from the Sistine Chapel chimney will signal the election of a new pope.

Before voting, cardinals reviewed Pope Francis’ legacy — reforms in Vatican finances, efforts to address abuse, and outreach to marginalized communities.

His successor must build on this while navigating new pressures.

Experts warn predictions may not reflect final results.

The conclave remains unpredictable, shaped by private negotiations and spiritual discernment.

The Catholic Church stands at a crossroads.

The world watches as cardinals seek a leader who can bridge divides, restore trust, and guide the faithful into a complex future.
