Mayor Oscar Moreno confirmed that Cagayan de Oro City Hall ordered 100,000 doses of the Covovax to supplement the city’s share of the vaccines it will receive from the national government.
“The (Novavax) supplier already sent the transaction documents. We ordered 100,000 doses of the Covovax vaccine since we don’t want to over-subscribe nor do we want to under-subscribe. Of course we will be observing in the next few weeks since there will be vaccines coming from Manila hopefully,” Mayor Moreno announced during Monday noon’s City Hall press briefing.
Covovax has a 95.6% efficacy score against the original COVID-19 virus. Faberco Life Sciences Inc., the vaccine’s local provider, stated that the vaccine can be kept at usual temperatures of two to three degrees Celsius, which are already available in the country’s current cold storage facilities. Nonetheless, Mayor Moreno mentioned that the most important thing is to ensure that the vaccination rollout will be as effective as possible.
‘The efficiency of the vaccine rollout determines the success of the vaccination program. And public acceptance (and cooperation) plays a crucial part in ensuring the vaccination program’s success…as I said before the vaccination program is the easiest to criticize but quite challenging to implement,’ Mayor Moreno added.
