Fans speculate a whole different meaning behind the 2003 song Everytime by Britney Spears following her revelation to get an abortion. Britney Spears, 41, opened up about her “agonizing” decisions in her forthcoming memoir, The Woman in Me.
The pop icon revealed that when she dated Justin Timberlake, she became pregnant with his baby. However, she had gone through with the abortion because Timberlake wanted her to. According to Spears, Timberlake said, “we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.” Spears also writes: “To this day, it’s one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life.”
Since the revelation was published on Oct. 17, Tuesday, fans have begun to wonder if Everytime’s lyrics allude to the abortion. Within the song’s chorus, Spears sings the specific lyrics:
“And every time I try to fly, I fall”
“Without my wings, I feel so small
“I guess I need you, baby”
“And every time”
“I see you in my dreams”
“I see your face, you’re haunting me”
“I guess I need you, baby.”
In one of the scenes in the official music video, Spears is seen walking through a hospital room, where one woman had just given birth and another had died. The final shot in the video is a close-up of a newborn child.
“The baby in the Everytime music video was the baby Britney felt forced to abort. My heart.” A user tweeted on X/Twitter regarding her theories about the music video.
“Everytime by Britney Spears has a whole different meaning now,” another user commented.
A third user also posted that the song was like a “lullaby saying how she needs her baby”.
Another user added: “The way Britney Spears touches her belly at the end of Everytime while looking at the mother and her baby has me bawling after reading that part of the book.”
Both the audio and print versions of The Woman in Me will be released on the 24th of October.
