Joe Biden has approved a secret nuclear strategy in preparation for possible nuclear confrontations. These possible threats include the recent news China focuses on the expansion of its nuclear weapons.
The White House stated that President Joe Biden had approved the plan earlier this year. They also added that the strategy is not a response to a single country. According to the New York Times, the president approved the revised plan in March.
The “Nuclear Employment Guidance” is revised every four years and details the response to a possible nuclear attack on the U.S. Due to the guideline’s sensitive nature, it is accessible to a selected group of administration officials.

The revised guidelines have mentioned deterrence strategies to address “China’s rapidly expanding nuclear arsenal.” The Times added that the document also addresses the potential attacks involving China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran.
Pranay Vadd of the National Security Council explained that Joe Biden had expanded the policy to address the nuclear threats posed by these countries.
“[The revised policy] emphasizes the need to account for the growth and diversity of the PRC’s nuclear arsenal – and the need to deter Russia, the PRC, and North Korea simultaneously,” Vaddi said. He also added that Washington was considering expanding its arsenal to counter the nuclear threat level that is brought up by its adversaries.
China’s nuclear capabilities have attracted significant attention worldwide. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, the country has expanded its nuclear arsenal by 90 warheads, bringing the total to 500.
The U.S. and China engaged in informal nuclear arms talks in March, but these negotiations were suspended two months later due to the U.S. selling arms to Taiwan.

Presidential nominee Donald Trump expressed concern about the issue alongside the matter of China’s increasing nuclear threat level.
“That’s where you need a strong American president because you just, you don’t want to have this proliferation,” Trump said.
US Air Force Lieutenant General Jeffrey Kruse told the US Senate Armed Service Committee that Russia and China are not interoperable in terms of military force. However, he added that they would be cooperative and prompt the armed forces to review their strategies.
