According to an update by the weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Bagyong Leon has intensified into a super typhoon as of 8 AM on Wednesday, October 30.
Super typhoon Leon travels at a wind speed of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) near its center, with gusts of up to 230 kph.
According to the Inquirer, its eye was last seen 360 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan. Meanwhile, a recent update from ABS-CBN News says it’s traveling west-northwestward at 15 kph.
It’s currently declared Signal No.3 in the following areas:
- Batanes
- Eastern portion of Babuyan Islands

Furthermore, PAGASA is not ruling out Signal No. 5 as Super Typhoon Leon intensifies. The super typhoon is forecast to approach Bataan closely tomorrow by early morning or afternoon. Reports also say that a landfall at Bataan is possible.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), 125 people were reported dead as of Tuesday, October 29, due to the onslaught of Super Typhoon Leon and Severe Tropical Storm Kristine. Stay tuned for further weather updates.
