Anthony Pangilinan, husband of actress Maricel Laxa, is now recovering from a successful heart surgery after being diagnosed with mitral heart valve disease.
According to the Mayo Clinic, heart valve disease occurs when one or more of the heart’s valves do not work correctly.
Symptoms of the disease include shortness of breath, fatigue, chest pain, irregular heartbeat, and swelling of the ankles and feet.

Pangilinan shared the experience he had to go through on his Instagram Reel.
“Long story short, I had a mitral heart valve issue that had a, and I quote, ‘torrentially severe leak,’ and if not for a strong heart, which I think I got from running, I should’ve already shown more serious heartfelt symptoms, ” Pangilinan said.
“With the help of dear friends and family, we prepped for the open-heart surgery with whatever hope and faith we could hold on to,” he added.
Pangilinan revealed that what was expected to be a three—to five-hour procedure turned out to be a 12-hour operation due to various difficulties. He also mentioned remaining in the hospital for at least three weeks.
“It will be a long, slow road to recovery. One doctor said that what I went through was like being beaten up by ten guys and rammed by ten trucks. Whatever way it is… I made it through by His grace,” Pangilinan commented.
