Ang Bandang Shirley announced their disbandment on February 19, 2025 amid resurfaced allegations against co-member, Ean Aguila.

The indie rock band shared the news on their social media channels, stating that the allegations against Aguila that resurfaced in January has significantly affected the rest of the members.

In a unified statement by Debb Acebu, Kathy Gener, Paolo Arciga, and Miggy Abesamis:

“[…] we have decided not to continue as a band. This is the end for Ang Bandang Shirley. We thank you for all your support and for listening to our music throughout the years.”

They also stated they do not condone their co-member’s behavior.

The allegations first emerged in 2017, when a user on X (formerly Twitter) made claims of sexual misconduct among some indie bands, including Ang Bandang Shirley. 

The user specifically called out Ean Aguila, and former band members Owel Alvero and Joe Fontanilla. 

Ean, along with his former bandmates, denied the allegations in a collective statement.

In January 2025, new information of allegations against the lead vocalist-guitarist resurfaced on X.

Aguila was once again reputed for sexual misconduct and pursuing a relationship with a 17 year old fan when he was 30.

Beginning of February, Aguila issued a statement in his now-inaccessible Facebook account taking responsibility for his actions. 

“I want to emphasize that there is no excuse for how I behaved, and I hold myself accountable for that until this very day.,” he wrote.

He also clarified that his co-members are not complicit with his wrongdoings, and he will be leaving the band.
Ang Bandang Shirley is a Filipino indie rock band that started in 2003. The band’s notable discography are Theme Song (2009), Nakauwi Na (2015), Umaapaw (2016).
