ABS-CBN announced that Alvin Elchico will take over the position of anchor for its longest-running news program, “TV Patrol.” The new team and program bid farewell to veteran anchorman Henry Omaga-Diaz with a tribute video featuring his coverages.

“Kaya sa mahigit na apat na dekada niyang pagbabalita at pagiging Kapamilya, isang pasasalamat at pagpupugay sa nag-iisang Henry Omaga-Diaz.”

The announcement was made during the closing segment of the TVP Weekend episode on September 1.

Elchico thanked Hernandez and the production staff under ABS-CBN for the role.

Alvin Echico has been a news anchor and field reporter since 1996. One of his notable achievements is his exclusive coverage of the Oakwood Premier building in July 2003 during the Oakwood mutiny.

Henry Omaga-Diaz announced his departure on August 30, citing reasons to be with his family in Canada. He dedicated 33 years of service to ABS-CBN, covering many exclusive topics and matters. He mentioned that he plans to continue working in the field of journalism in the near future. Additionally, he expressed that he will miss the colleagues he worked with.

Former ABS-CBN broadcaster Julius Babao paid tribute to Diaz via Instagram.

“Henry and I go a long way. Halos sabay kaming na-assign as police reporter in the 1990’s and would often see each other sa mga coverage at gimmick noon kasama ang namayapang si Mario Dumaual” Babao stated. Wishing you the best on your new and exciting adventure Henry! See you again soon!”
