Alice Guo plans to reclaim her seat as mayor of Bamban, Tarlac, in the upcoming election. Her lawyer, Stephen David, shared the details on Thursday, October 3.  

“She will run. Why don’t we let the people decide kung gusto siya ng tao,” David stated. 

He also added that Guo’s legal; team is preparing the required documents to file her certificates of candidacy (COC). 

Guo was dismissed from her position by the Ombudsman in August due to her connection with a Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) hub in Tarlac. While their orders typically result in a penalty of permanent disqualification from holding public office, they can still be appealed and are, therefore, not considered final.

Regarding her announcement, Commission on Elections (COMELEC) spokesman Rex Laudiangco confirmed the poll body would accept Guo’s COC should she file for the 2025 elections. 

However, he also clarified that acceptance does not mean the person is automatically a candidate. He further mentioned that a disqualification or COC cancellation petition must be filed against Alice Guo for the poll body to decide.

“We ourselves are hoping that someone will file a petition to cancel her COC based on her qualifications, particularly concerning her citizenship. Somebody has to file the petition with the COMELEC,” Laudiangco stated.

“We have to follow due process. A petition must be filed. It has to be heard. We cannot just automatically cancel a COC.”

Senator Loren Legarda criticized Guo’s plan, stating that COMELEC should not allow her to run for candidacy because her birth certificate “has been canceled.” 

“We must not suffer in silence and be victimized by another Alice Guo, who is a coddler of illegal criminal syndicates,” Legarda said.
