The earthquake’s epicenter was close to Southern Leyte, an area that has experienced several seismic activities recently. On January 15, a smaller earthquake measuring 3.1 in magnitude was reported just north of Sogod.
Meanwhile, although Tacloban City, located in Leyte province, was not directly impacted by today’s earthquake, it remains vulnerable due to its geographical location. The city has experienced significant seismic events in the past, with residents remaining alert for aftershocks following larger earthquakes.
Siargao Island, known for its beautiful beaches and surfing spots, is also situated in a seismically active region. While there have been no recent reports of significant earthquakes affecting Siargao directly, its proximity to Leyte means that tremors could potentially be felt there as well.
It’s best to constantly monitor and follow PHIVOLCS for more updated information on advisories and warnings.
