News quickly broke when law enforcement received calls about a school shooting in Apalachee, Georgia. A fourteen-year-old boy named Colt Gray was arrested for the crime.
One of the victims of the crime was Mason Schermerhorn. He was another fourteen-year-old student in the school whose family members posted his photos on social media when he couldn’t be found. Unfortunately, he didn’t survive the school shooting in Georgia.

Gray also shot teacher and coach David Phenix who survived his injuries. His family’s online posts shared that the shooter struck him in the foot and hip. This left him with a shattered hip bone but is reportedly in stable condition.
Authorities charged the suspect, Gray, with four counts of murder, and they will try him as an adult. The incident injured nine other individuals in Apalachee High School. Moreover, two officers arrested the teen on campus, with the local sheriff, Jud Smith, describing the incident as “pure evil.”
Nearly two thousand students were in the school when the Georgia school shooting happened. At around 10:20 in the morning, officers began to receive calls of a shooting at the local high school.
Smith says, “Within minutes law enforcement was on scene, as well as two school resource officers assigned to the school who immediately encountered the subject.”
He further adds, “The subject immediately surrendered. He gave up, got on the ground. And the officers took him into custody.”

Georgia’s director of Bureau of Investigation unusually named the suspect, since Gray is a minor. In his press appearance he says, “What is more important for me to mention here to you is my heartfelt sympathy to the parents. The students that were here.”
So far, reports haven’t been shared about the specifics of the firearm. Additionally, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris condemened the incident. The current President of the US called on Congress for tighter gun laws. The Vice President also called it a “senseless tragedy.” She also called for the end of the epedimic of gun violence. She says, “It doesn’t have to be this way.”
The Georgia school shooting was the 385th mass shooting in the US alone in 2024.
In response to the Georgia incident, Biden says called upon the Republicans in Congress to cooperate with the Democrats. Furthermore, he encourages them to pass “commonsense gun safety legislation.” This includes banning assault weapons, high-capacity magazines, and for gun buyers to undergo universal background checks.
