Justin of SB19 graced Rappler’s Live Jam last night with performances of his songs ‘kaibigan’ and ‘surreal.’ He also covered ‘Sunday Morning’ by Maroon 5.

The youngest member of the P-Pop Kings group sat down with Rappler to talk about his solo career journey. With Justin being the youngest and Josh the eldest, the other SB19 members’ ages range from 26-30. Currently, the group is self-managed under their agency, 1Z Entertainment.

In the interview, he discussed the differences between performing with a group and solo. He said he needed to exert more effort in his solo ventures since his group mates weren’t there to help him.

“Kunwari pag nasa group di ako masyadong nagsasalita. As solo, kailangan mong dumaldal and maging parang confident and all,” says the P-Pop artist. SB19 Justin also shares that he feels more relaxed when he’s with his fellow members.

Here, he also discussed his creative process, emphasizing visual art. Justin says the music is the product, but visuals help him execute it better. The singer was previously praised for his ‘Kaibigan’ music video.

In the video, he showcased his talent in various creative aspects. He wrote the song while RADKIDZ (PABLO and Josue) produced it. Additionally, Justin was the video’s executive producer.

Many expressed their sentiments about the song, particularly kaibigan’s lyrics, which include:

Ang tanong ngayon ay bakit (Bakit?)

Sa kamay ko pa kumapit

Kung walang ibig sabihin?

Ba’t ganyan ang ‘yong tingin?

The singer was previously linked to actress Sharlene San Pedro, so many fans speculate the song is about her.

‘Kaibigan’ by Justin was further discussed in the interview. The singer says, “So, yung feeling sa umpisa is more is parang kinuquestion mo ‘yung love na nararamdaman mo to that friend. Na ‘Ano yung pinapakita mo?’ ganyan, pero at the end, sasabihin niya kung ano. At parang nagagalit ka na kasi parang hindi taliwas sa sinasabi mo ‘yung pinapakita mo. Parang ganon.”

When asked about advice he could give fans struggling with unrequited love, the artist joked, “Kung in love kayo sa friend niyo pero di kayo love ng friend niyo na ‘yon. Be a good friend.”

However, he continued with, “Parang ano nalang, syempre especially let’s say kung close friend mo talaga siya o best friend. And usually kasi ‘yung situation is magiging awkward kayo afterwards. It’s either parang masaya na na magiging kayo or parang mutual feelings. Or parang minsan, masira ang friendship. Or meron din namang okay lang pero may awkwardness ng konti ganyan.”

“So, whatever ‘yung response ‘dun kahit maging kayo, you have to be a good friend parin. Kung maging awkward kayo, you support kung ano ang gusto niya. Unless may ginawa siyang mali sa’yo na very alarming na o questionable. So ayun lang, be a good friend.”
