UPDATED: September 26, 2023.

PBA player John Amores and his brother are currently under police arrest for their involvement in a shooting incident in Laguna. According to reports, the shooting stemmed from a basketball fight.

The police report detailed that Amores had a heated argument with 32-year-old Lee Cacalda after a provincial basketball game. The former PBA player got off the motorcycle and chased Cacalda before shooting him. Reports confirmed that the motorcycle driver was Amores’s brother and that no one was seriously hurt.

News of John Amores’s shooting got the police chasing the brothers, which ended with them surrendering at 1 AM. They are scheduled to undergo inquest proceedings for attempted murder charges.

John Amores’s incident doesn’t start here. Back in 2022, he went berserk and punched a player in the middle of the game. Despite the situation, John Amores continued to play basketball and was even selected in the 20-23 PBA Draft by NorthPort. However, the current controversy leads fans to believe it would jeopardize his professional career.

As of the article’s writing, both the Philippine Basketball Association and NorthPort didn’t respond to the incident.

Recent news also shared that the victim’s mother, Shirley Cacalda, was rushed to the Lumban Police Station this Thursday Morning. Both ABS-CBN and GMA had an interview with the distraught mother, who shared her reaction regarding the situation her son went through. Lee Cacalda will pursue the case against the Amores brothers.
