Catriona Gray finally won the libel case she filed against Bulgar editor Janice Navida and writer Melba Llanera in 2020. Her legal counsel, Atty. Josabeth “Joji” Alonso confirmed the news through an Instagram post on Friday, September 20.
“Finally, after 4 years, the libel and cyber libel cases filed by Miss Universe 2018 [Catriona Gray] have been resolved,” said Alonso in her post.
“The writer and editor of Bulgar were found guilty beyond reasonable doubt, sentencing them to imprisonment,” she added.
Alonso ended her post with, “Thank you Cat for the trust you have reposed on us. The journey was not an easy tread but it is all worth it.”

Catriona Gray filed the case against the Bulgar editor and writer after a fake topless photo of the beauty queen was released by the media outlet and circulated online.
It’s reported that Navida and Llanera are sentenced to a minimum of six months and one day of imprisonment.
In a 2020 statement, Navida said they did their best to protect Catriona Gray by blurring the photo and “not releasing the original.”
According to PEP.ph, Navida and Llanera will appeal the court’s decision.
“Bilog ang universe. Hindi pa tapos ‘to. Tuloy ang laban para sa katotohanan,” they said.

“Bahagi na ng buhay naming mga mamamahayag ang demanda at hindi na bago ito,” they added. “Tulad ng ibang propesyon, hindi madali ang pagtupad sa aming tungkulin ngunit buong loob, tibay ng dibdib at tiwala sa Panginoong Maykapal ang aming sandata sa mga labang aming kailangang kaharapin na kaakibat ng aming paghahatid ng katotohanan sa taumbayan.”
“Maaaring hindi natin makamit ang pagsang-ayon ng lahat sa panahong ito ngunit patuloy tayong naniniwala na sa takdang panahon, katotohanan din ang magtutuwid ng lahat,” they added.
They ended their statement with, “Tuloy ang buhay. Tuloy ang laban para sa katotohanan. Naninindigan para sa karapatan.”
