PAGASA: Tropical Depression now Tropical Storm JOSE

WEATHER UPDATE — According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the Tropical Depression spotted outside the PAR has intensified to become a Tropical Storm with local name Jose and international name NANMADOL.

Tropical Storm NANMADOL is now located 1,910 km East of Extreme Northern Luzon (22.5°N, 140.2°E) with maximum sustained winds of 65 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 80 km per hour. It is moving East Northeastward at 10 km per hour.

(We can see the possibility of the storm intensifying into a Typhoon Category if it enters our area of responsibility, whereby it will be named JOSE)



According to the latest analysis, the storm will stay far from any landmass and it will not have a direct effect on any part of the country, except for the possibility that it will enhance the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat that will cause rain to the country.

At the moment, there is a weak Southwest Monsoon affecting the western section of Southern Luzon and Visayas.

For today’s weather forecast, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Aklan and Antique will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, with the possibility of flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, with the possibility of flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.



Winds will be moderate to strong in Extreme Northern Luzon, moving west to southwest, while coastal waters will be moderate to rough; winds will be light to moderate in the rest of Luzon, moving west to southwest, while coastal waters will be slight to moderate; and winds will be light to moderate in the rest of the country, moving southwest and coastal waters will be slight to moderate.
