weather update january 5 2023

WEATHER UPDATE — According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the Low-Pressure Area (LPA) near Eastern Visayas brings rain over Southern Luzon, Visayas, and parts of Mindanao. Meanwhile, the Amihan or Northeast Monsoon brings cold weather over Northern and Central Luzon.

As of 3 am, the LPA spotted near Kalayaan Islands is already out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), making its way to Southern Vietnam. However, the other LPA spotted in the middle of the country continues to bring rains over Southern Luzon, Visayas, and part of Mindanao. Said LPA may disperse within the day.

Areas in Central and Southern Luzon may experience rains until the afternoon due to the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan). This weather system will continue to affect the country for the following days.

DOST-PAGASA Weather Forecaster Benison Estareja also reports no tropical cyclone until the weekend.

WEATHER TODAY – JANUARY 5, 2023

For today’s weather, Cagayan Valley, CAR, Metro Manila, and the rest of Central Luzon may experience gloomy weather with light to moderate rains. Meanwhile, areas in Ilocos Region may expect cloudy skies and light rains due to the Amihan.

Calabarzon, Bicol Region, and MIMAROPA are affected by the LPA, which may bring scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. The weather agency warns residents of possible floods and landslides, especially in Quezon and Bicol Region.

The majority of Visayas will experience cloudy skies for the rest of the day with scattered rainshowers due to the LPA.

The LPA also affects Mindanao areas, including the CARAGA Region, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Davao Region. Meanwhile, areas in the Bangsamoro Region and SOCCSARGEN may experience cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon, due to the outer portion of the LPA.
