WEATHER UPDATE — According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the two Low-Pressure Areas (LPAs) spotted inside and outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) may merge within the next 24 hours.

The weather agency reports that while the two LPAs may merge in the coming day, there is still a relatively low chance of it becoming a tropical storm.

As seen in PAGASA’s satellite image, the LPA inside PAR is currently at 765 km east southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. Meanwhile, the LPA outside PAR is spotted 1,110 km east of Eastern Visayas.

At the moment, the northeast monsoon or amihan has become stronger, bringing rains and strong winds over Luzon and parts of Visayas.

WEATHER TODAY – FEBRUARY 17, 2023

For today’s weather forecast, the northeast monsoon brings cloudy skies, strong winds, and isolated rain showers over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera, Aurora, Quezon, and Bicol Region for the rest of the day.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon may experience fair weather with chances of light rains due to the Amihan.

Temperatures in Luzon range from 21 degrees Celsius to 31 degrees Celsius.

Cloudy skies and isolated rain showers and thunderstorms may prevail over Eastern Visayas, Bohol, Caraga, and Northern Mindanao due to the trough or extension of the Low-Pressure Area (LPA). Heavy rains are also possible by late afternoon.

Meanwhile, western and central Visayas are forecast to have cloudy skies with light rains brought by the Northeast Monsoon.

The rest of Mindanao may have fair weather with chances of rain due to localized thunderstorms.

Temperatures in Visayas and Mindanao range from 23 degrees Celsius to 33 degrees Celsius.
