NBI Agent, Special Investigator: How to become part of the Modern Bureau

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Academy continues to accept online applications, “calling all professionals, including the career women to become partners with the elite force for meaningful change.” Under the Modernization Act of 2016, the prestigious state bureau seeks to promote gender responsiveness and equality by encouraging more women to join the force. Here are the qualifications, basic requirements, and screening procedures below:

What are the NBI qualifications?

To become an NBI agent is quite tricky as the bureau requires strict hiring requirements and has to go through rigid training. NBI agents are preferably either Certified Public Accounts (CPA) or Lawyers. Why? Because in this investigative field, it demands critical and excellent knowledge in Accounting, Law, Finance, Law Enforcement, Physical Science, and the like. However, if applicants are yet to take licensing exams for CPA or Law, they may still qualify as an entry-level—either as a Special Investigator or other NBI staff. Moreover, the chance of becoming a Special Investigator is less complex as it only requires entry programs such as accounting, computer science, law, language, and diversified.

NBI Agent Qualifications

  • Must be a Filipino citizen and of good moral character, with excellent physical and mental health;
  • Must be a Lawyer or a CPA;
  • At least 5’5’’ (males) or 5’3’’ (females);
  • At least 25 years old but not more than 35;
  • Must have a very good vision (normal range);
  • Must have no pending criminal, civil or administrative cases and charges and never convicted any crime;
  • Must have no tattoo marks or body piercings;
  • Willing to be assigned anywhere in the Philippines.

Special Investigator Qualifications

  • Must be a Filipino citizen and of good moral character, with excellent physical and mental health;
  • Must be a Bachelors degree holder;
  • Must be a Civil Service Professional Eligible or a Board Passer;
  • At least 5’5’’ (males) or 5’3’’ (females);
  • At least 25 years old but not more than 35;
  • Must have a very good vision (normal range);
  • Must have a General Weighted Average of 84% in the TOR without any failure or grade;
  • Must have no pending criminal, civil or administrative cases and charges and never convicted any crime;
  • Must have no tattoo marks or body piercings;
  • Willing to be assigned anywhere in the Philippines.
 

What are the basic requirements?

Bring/submit the following documents to the National Academy for pre-assessment:
  • Diploma
  • Transcript of Records
  • Eligibility (Bar/Board)
  • Birth Certificate
  • Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
  • Community Tax Certificate
  • Residential Certificate
  • Personal Data Sheet (CS Form 212)
  • 2 pcs. 2×2 Pictures (Note: In Formal Attire/White Background)
  • NBI and Police Clearances
  • Court Clearances from RTC, MTC, and Prosecutor’s
  • ITR/W2- if working
  • SALN – if Government Employee
Applicants are advised to wear proper attire upon submitting requirements. However, due to movement restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic, applicants are encouraged to submit applications online.

What are the screening procedures?

Applicants must pass the rigid qualifying examinations and screening procedures to determine and select the best and most qualified applicants, namely:
  • Preliminary Medical Check-up
  • Written Examination
  • Preliminary Interview
  • Neuro-Psychiatric Examination
  • Complete Medical Examination
  • Agility Test
  • Polygraph Test
  • Background Investigation
  • Panel Interview
  • Training in the NBI Academy
Qualified applicants shall undergo extensive training for at least 20 weeks at the NBI Academy.  

NBA Agent Salary and Benefits

Entry-level NBI Agents earn at least P18,000 a month, while Special Investigators receive around P32,000 a month. Meanwhile, Senior NBI Agents get around P37,000. Likewise, agents receive benefits such as 13-month pay, GSIS, Philhealth, and Pagibig HDMF.   NBI is an agency under the Department of Justice, responsible for investigating some of the most high profile cases in the country.   —(Source: National Bureau of Investigation Academy)
