“Hypnotic,” starring Ben Affleck, is a thriller that follows the life of Detective Danny Rourke, who discovers himself falling down a rabbit hole while looking into a series of crimes that stretch the boundaries of reality, determined to find his missing daughter.
The film was directed by Robert Rodriguez, who has had a rough start releasing this movie. It was delayed by the pandemic, shut down on separate occasions, mixed up in an insurance lawsuit, and the main financier and distributor crumbled during its filming.
Rodriguez described the movie as “a Hitchcock thriller on steroids… It’s that kind of movie. A lot of twists, a lot of turns. Very exciting. It’s one of my favorite stories. I started writing it back in 2002. So it’s one of the ones I’ve had the longest that I’ve been wanting to do.”
Produced through Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios, he also serves as a producer alongside Guy Daniella, his son Racer Rodriguez, Mark Gill, Lisa Ellzey for Solstice, and Jeff Robinov and John Graham from Studio 8.
Alice Braga, J.D. Pardo, Hala Finley, Dayo Okeniyi, Jeff Fahey, Jackie Earle Haley, and William Fichtner also join Ben Affleck in the movie.
Affleck revisiting a genre he is used to, he returns to a role of a skillful detective instead of his well-known role as Batman, who is stressing over solving a mystery while also fighting with a psychological breakdown, all while he’s against the time.
Affleck’s role as Daniel Rourke is a hardened, compulsive, straight-to-the-point kind of detective who had the unfortunate event of losing his daughter under mysterious circumstances. Wanting to know the truth, he digs deeper and uncovers the hidden world of psychics, possessing a power that they can use to maintain and influence the world around them. – WhatALife!/Zain
