SEOUL, South Korea — ADOR has officially terminated Danielle’s exclusive contract. This is to confirm that it’s no longer viable for her to continue as a member of NewJeans or as an artist under the label. The announcement marks a decisive escalation in the prolonged dispute that has disrupted one of K-pop’s most commercially successful groups.
The decision comes as NewJeans continues to command massive global attention. According to Orange Magazine, NewJeans ranked among the top five most-streamed K-pop girl groups worldwide in 2023. With this data, it best explains the scale of impact surrounding any change to the group’s lineup.
In a statement released Monday, ADOR said it formally notified Danielle of the contract termination after determining that continued collaboration was no longer possible.
“We determined that it would be difficult to continue together as a NewJeans member and an ADOR artist,” the company said.
Confirmed Returns and Ongoing Negotiations
While Danielle’s status is now settled, ADOR clarified that Hanni has returned to the agency, resuming activities under her exclusive contract. Meanwhile, Minji’s contract remains under active negotiation.
With this news, fans have reacted strongly online, with “OT5 no more” trending across X and Korean fan communities within hours of the announcement.
According to K-en News, NewJeans averaged over 16 million monthly listeners globally in 2024, illustrating the commercial stakes tied to the group’s continuity. Industry analysts note that member departures at this scale often affect endorsement contracts, touring plans, and long-term brand value.
Legal Action Against Family Member and Former CEO
ADOR also disclosed plans to pursue legal action against a member of Danielle’s family and former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin, alleging that their actions “precipitated” the internal conflict. The agency claims these circumstances directly contributed to NewJeans’ departure from scheduled activities and delayed their return as a group.
South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism reports that major idol contract disputes escalated into civil litigation, from 2019 onward. With this, it highlights how frequently internal disagreements spill into the legal arena. ADOR stated it intends to hold responsible parties accountable for damages related to operational delays and reputational harm.
For Danielle, the termination signals a definitive break. ADOR has not disclosed whether Danielle plans to pursue solo activities independently or under a new agency.
As negotiations with Minji continue and Hanni’s return stabilizes part of the lineup, ADOR faces the challenge of rebuilding trust with fans while redefining NewJeans as a group.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

No. The NewJeans name and related trademarks are owned by ADOR, which means Danielle cannot use the group’s branding for independent activities.
Will ADOR introduce a new member to replace Danielle?
ADOR has not announced any plans to add a new member. Industry precedent suggests agencies rarely replace members in established top-tier groups.
How could this affect NewJeans’ endorsement contracts?
